British-born Maxi Priest is an International singing star who has had hits in the UK, Europe, and the States. In a reggae-fusion style, Maxi has performed and recorded with the likes of Sly and Robbie, Shaggy, Beres Hammond, Jazzie B, Apache Indian, Roberta Flack, Shurwayne Winchester, Shabba Ranks, Robin Trower, and Lee Ritenour.
Maxi broke into the British charts in the mid-1980s with a series of releases, including "Crazy Love", "Some Guys Have All the Luck", and then achieved a Top Five hit with "Wild World". He scored an American Billboard number one with "Close to You" in 1990 and a duet with Roberta Flack, "Set the Night to Music", reached the American Top Ten in 1991. His duet with Shaggy in 1996, "That Girl", was also a hit in the United States, peaking at number twenty.
Tonight's show is a retrospective of Maxi's career, featuring a combination of his solo releases and significant collaborations. It balances hard-core reggae vibes with more mainstream sensibilities, showcasing his talent as a consummate performer and one of the most successful reggae fusion artists of all time.
Maxi Priest's music has garnered universal appeal, offering healing, rejuvenation, and upliftment. Since his debut in 1988, Maxi has enjoyed tremendous success, gaining popularity and recognition around the world. In fact, second only to Bob Marley, many consider him to be the most successful reggae solo artist in the world.
