“Mighty Quinn”, “Pretty Flamingo”, ‘Do Wah Diddy Diddy’, "Handbags and Gladrags"

Seize a unique opportunity to spend an evening at Boisdale of Canary Wharf on 1 & 2 June when Paul Jones and Mike D’Abo, vocalists in the iconic British rock and R&B band Manfred Mann, will take to the Yamaha Music London stage for a night of 60s nostalgia.

Not only were Manfred Mann one of the finest and most respected pop groups from that era, they were also one of the first British outfits to top the US Billboard Hot 100 during the so-called “British invasion”, the period in the mid 60s when British bands and British culture became popular in the US.

“What a privilege to host two singers who contributed so much, not just to our music culture, but to the popular global culture of one of the most exciting decades of the 20th century,” said Boisdale founder Ranald Macdonald.

The band was formed in London in 1962 by keyboard player Manfred Mann and co-musician Mike Hugg. Paul Jones was lead vocalist from 1962 to 1965 and Mike D’Abo (who incidentally also penned the classic “Handbags and Gladrags”) from 1966 to 1969.

Originally the band’s music was rooted in jazz and blues but as the decade progressed, Manfred Mann gradually adopted the irresistible pop sound of the period with hints of folk-psychedelic thrown into the mix. The hits came thick fast and included “5-4-3-2-1”, “Do Wah Diddy Diddy”, “Sha La La”, “Ha Ha Said the Clown”, “Mighty Quinn”, “Pretty Flamingo”, “If You Gotta Go, Go Now”, “Just like a Woman” and “Semi-Detached, Suburban Mr James”.

“I’m sure it will be a Canary Wharf evening to remember with wave after wave of hits,” Ranald added.
