Boisdale of Belgravia proudly presents a specially curated tribute to Billie Holiday - an intimate, story-led celebration inspired by her legendary 1956 Carnegie Hall concert.
In that historic performance, Billie Holiday wove her songs together with readings from her autobiography Lady Sings the Blues, creating a deeply personal portrait of her life and artistry. This evocative tribute follows the same format, combining Holiday’s timeless music with excerpts from her extraordinary life story.
Led by pianist and musical director Alex Webb, the band is joined by outstanding London vocalist Riketté Genesis, who brings her own nuanced interpretations to the Lady Day catalogue. As the music unfolds, Riketté interlaces each song with spoken passages drawn from Holiday’s memoir, offering rare insight into the triumphs, struggles, and resilience behind the voice.
Riketté Genesis is a jazz vocalist specialising in swing-era repertoire, with a style shaped by traditional gypsy jazz and early swing. Set within the elegant surroundings of Boisdale of Belgravia, with its refined acoustics, award-winning food and drink, and intimate club atmosphere, this performance offers a rare opportunity to experience Billie Holiday’s music and story as one powerful, moving narrative.
